Vietnam Immersion Programme: EdTech
With a 4-day agenda from 27th – 30th June 2022, packed with business matching meetings across Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province, JDI organized Vietnam Immersion Programme: Edtech (VIP EdTech), specifically for 5 EdTech companies from Singapore, to address the future of Education in Vietnam.
Codomo

Codomo is a Singaporean education technology company with a mission to provide equitable access to future-ready skills through delightful experiences.
Their new product and business focus – Rolljak is a collaborative game-based learning platform that enables scalable, guided and time-boxed activities for classrooms or workspaces be it for brainstorming, business discussions, testing of knowledge, or gathering opinions. Rolljak incorporates Kahoot scalability and gamification together with Miro’s collaboration.
The company was represented by Aditya Batura, Chief Executive Officer, and Lim Jia Xuan, Chief Data Officer.
CyberLitmus

CyberLitmus is a cybersecurity SaaS company that helps organizations build their security awareness programmes from zero to one.
They do this with a data-driven platform to simulate a range of human attack vectors such as phishing with a mobile and browser-first learning design methodology to drive behavioral change.
CyberLitmus also has a monitoring solution available as a SaaS to monitor the web for leaked breaches of credentials.
The company was represented by Lee Kian Chong, Chief Executive Officer.
HeyHi

HeyHi is a unique AI-enabled yet human-centric EdTech personalized learning system that integrates assessment, synchronous and asynchronous learning on a unified platform.
They optimize educators’ work processes based on data, ML, and AI technologies, enabling differentiated instructions to be easily conducted in a highly collaborative, engaging, and interactive learning space.
Through their dynamic learning environment, HeyHi magnifies learners’ opportunities to make it a rewarding experience for everyone.

Kinobi

Kinobi is a digital career platform that proactively helps students transition from education to the workforce. Career centers today are only staffed with a handful of counselors to service thousands of students with some schools having ratios of 2 counselors to 1000+ students.
With the end of presenting their results and hitting KPIs, counselors are spending more time grinding over data than having meaningful interactions with their students. Kinobi comes in to provide an All-In-One SaaS solution for universities.
Kinobi’s Student Management System provides an analytic platform to track and benchmark student performances and a comprehensive toolkit for students’ career needs which multiplies the effort of the career center staff and eases their workload.

Neuro Code Research develops leading-edge technologies to unleash hidden potentials of the human brain and improve mental wellness.
Neuro Code Research Centre also develops technology to help improve the quality of life of special needs people with ADHD, Autism, and Dementia symptoms

Meeting AI Education
Day 1 morning featured insights into the state of edtech and digital transformation across different education levels, various cities and provinces across Vietnam, and private vs public institutions. This session and the subsequent 1-to-1 business matching with the 5 edtech companies from Singapore was hosted by Minh Do, CEO of AI Education Vietnam.

On the afternoon of day 1, we had a thoughtful discussion with Ms. Hang Nguyen, Founder of BHL Education, about the trends, opportunities, and challenges in Vietnam’s K-12 education sector, before breaking up into 1-to-1 business matching with all 5 visiting edtech companies from Singapore.

VIP EdTech Day 2, 28 June 2022 – Trips to UEF, NLU, and Edtech Asia
Meeting Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF)
Day 2 morning started with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economic and Finance (UEF). We had a thoughtful discussion with the organization’s leaders, hosted by Dr. Nhan Cam Tri, Vice President, and Dean, Faculty of Economics, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Deputy Director, Centre of Corporate Relations, and Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha, Head of Logistics Major, Faculty of Economics.
The discussion covered the opportunities, and challenges of Edtech in Vietnam, and the university’s approach towards digital transformation, followed by a 1-to-1 business matching with the 5 visiting companies from Singapore.

Meeting Nong Lam University (NLU)
On Day 2 afternoon, we visited Nong Lam University (NLU), one of the biggest universities in Vietnam, and discussed with their business leaders how Singapore’s edtech startups can help build the foundation for many young talents here. This session was hosted by Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan, Vice President, and Mr. Do Xuan Hong, Director, the Center for Technology Business Incubation.
Whilst the 5 edtech companies from Singapore had their 1-to-1 business matching session with NLU at various timeslots, there was also an ongoing panel discussion with students and faculty present in a separate classroom to share about their inspiring entrepreneurship journey, milestones, and obstacles along the way, and their ambitions to empower the future of education in Vietnam.

Networking With EdTech Asia
A special networking event with EdTech Asia was organized for the night of Day 2. This event was hosted by Mike Michalec, Founder of EdTech Asia, and the companies had a chance to meet him. Through this initiation, the VIP companies from Singapore also learned about the Vietnamese EdTech market activity from key players in the local business community and discussed market insights with them.

Day 3 continues our tour trip to Van Lang University (VLU) and meets great minds that are trying to bring edTech transformation into a reality for their campus. This was hosted by Dr. Tien Le Hung from the Faculty of Engineering, Ms. Bui Pham Lan Phuong, Member Board of Trustees, and Ms. Luong Ngoc Tran, Corporate Relations Officer.

Before the end of the Day 3 event, we had the opportunity to visit Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV).
With a warm welcome by Ms. Phan Hoang Lan, FUV’s Head of Centre for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the programme saw engaging discussions about the key strategies for edtech startups to grow strong in Vietnam.

VIP EdTech Day 4 – Trips to EIU And VSIP In Binh Duong
Meeting Eastern International University (EIU)
Day 4 of JDI’s Vietnam Immersion Programme is organized in Binh Duong Province!
In the morning, we took a trip to Eastern International University to meet Dr. Ngo Minh Duc, Vice President, Mr. Le Vinh Quang, Director, Office of Community Engagement, Mr. Alexius Oh, Vice Director, Office of Community Engagement, Dr. Narayan C. Debnath, Founding Dean, School of Computing & IT, of EIU, and his team of experts. The Edtech Innovation spirit was strongly expressed throughout their campus tour and business matching.

Vietnam Immersion Programme Day 4 is finally concluded with a special tour to the VSIP I Binh Duong.

To conclude our first VIP, we came back to the JDI office for a final 1-to-1 business matching session with KDI Education. We tried Codomo’s board game – Potato Pirates – which explored how we can introduce unplugged coding into Vietnam’s education system through KDI’s programmes and spaces.
